Hey there! My name is MacKenzie Mellen. I'm a Houston-bred actor/singer/dancer/writer living in London, and my work-in-progress cabaret show, "I Wanna Be a Gay Icon", is going up at the Phoenix Arts Club on 13th August 2026. Half monologue and half triple-threat musical performance, this show is a completely original work that not only employs myself, but two other amazing artists: West End Musical Director James Doughty and Houston-born Choreographer/performer Caitlin Cannon Fagan! I would consider everyone who has worked on this show a Gay Icon.

SUMMARY:

"MacKenzie Mellen was born a diva. Tonight, she will prove to you why she deserves to be one of THE divas in a triple-threat extravaganza that asks, "What makes a gay icon?"

MacKenzie, in her attempt to win the title of "LGBTQ+ Legend", will sing, dance and yap her way through the songs of the greats including Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, Dolly Parton and even our lord and saviour, Liza Minnelli.

So if you have ever A) wanted to be a guest judge on RuPaul's Drag Race, B) thought that Sharpay was the real hero of High School Musical or C) watched Dance Moms, this is the show for you."
