Fund the Knowledge

I've talked with thousands of high school students over the years. Having recruited for Penn State, my alma mater in some capacity for the last 10 years, I noticed a need!

College Knowledge
The idea for College Knowledge began when I began a Zoom appointment with a student looking to gather information on college while working as an admissions counselor at Penn State. The student was with his sister, a recent college graduate who admitted that she didn't have the best guidance when it came to preparing for college. We talked for maybe an hour about college and what he should know while looking at colleges. As we're talking, there weren't many questions, but there were a lot of them writing things down. Within the next couple of weeks, there were a few instances where I was either taking a phone call or a Zoom appointment where there were students and their families who were clueless on the college process and college in general. You don't know what you don't know.

Having this so heavily on my mind and being thanked so profusely by the families I was talking to about just general college information, I began to think about what's out there where high school students can go and get general college information. Where can they go and get information on what even to look at?

After searching… something clicked! Why not start something myself? I then began to think of who I would want on my dream team to help me begin this journey to help students began to start their college search process and change the way students think about the college search process, more so putting their stressed minds at ease. After putting together my dream team, we began to get to work!

Why College Knowledge
The vision for College Knowledge is to provide those who have an interest in college a starting point and information needed to begin searching for a college, narrowing down colleges, finding the right fit, and providing information on the resources to pay for college.

"You don't know what you don't know." Our mission is to put students in the know and give them the tools and resources to succeed through their college search process while increasing access to information to college-seeking students.

Is college for you? Why go to college? What's the difference between a college and a university? What's the difference between a private and a public institution? What types of colleges are out there? When should you start looking? When should you start to apply to colleges? What is the SAT and the ACT? Need I go on!? There are so many questions out there and many times student and their families don't even know where to start. That's why we're here. We want to give the students the tools to be successful.

What we'll offer
We'll offer several virtual sessions covering an array of information, not just what's asked above. Our sessions will cover information about starting to apply to colleges and where to start while also covering what you should know about financial aid and financial literacy to avoid ending up in debt. I wish there wasn't a need for this but after years spent in college recruiting, there is a HUGE need for something like this.

As we began to offer sessions, our hope is to provide scholarships for tuition and books along with help students from low-income areas pay for college applications fees and taking the SATs or ACT.

How can you support?
Obviously, we're looking for start-up support in the form of funding... hence the GoFundMe, but also think about who you know who could maybe benefit from our low-cost sessions. Who out there is looking into college or will be in the next couple of years that could benefit from our sessions. Direct them to us!

What experience could you bring? Could you host a session on something related to college? What ideas do you have, or what questions did you have looking into college? Let us know. We're trying to help the community at large, and so could you!

The Goal
The goal is to raise $2,894. The specific amount will cover:

- Department of Education approval costs
- LLC filing costs
- Zoom account costs
- Website costs
- Website domain costs
- Yearly PO Box Cost
- Home office start-up costs
- Social media marketing costs

Let me know if you're interested in seeing the business plan: [email redacted]

Anything raised over the goal will begin to establish scholarships for students and pay for college fees mentioned above to help those in need over financial barriers. So don't let reaching the goal stop you.

Our website is also in the works, and we continue to add knowledge... see what I did there. Please feel free to check out a few visible pages include the sessions page outlining what sessions we plan to offer from the start: College Knowledge   (mobile-friendly version coming soon)
