Unfortunately, the van needs much more extensive repairs than we originally realized. When we bought the van used, we knew it needed a few fixes. However, it actually needs an entirely new engine. There's no way the seller could have known prior to getting into the engine, and the seller is unable to take the vehicle back.
As we rapidly approach our first field season, we really need to get the K9 Conservationists-mobile up and running. Repairs may run as high as $24,000. Any excess funding raised will go towards crash-proof crates for the dogs and creating a fund for paid internships.
Our goal is to provide high-quality detection dog services to nonprofits, researchers, and others in need. We train dogs to detect data. From dead bats on wind farms to invasive insects on boat motors to the scat of IUCN Red List species in the wilderness, our teams are up to the challenge.
Our dog training methods are rooted in the Humane Hierarchy of dog training. Wherever possible, our dogs go through double-blind odor recognition trials using relevant distractor odors prior to deployment.
Our dogs bring boundless enthusiasm (and charisma) to the dirty side of data collection. Their joy (and accuracy) at finding a hard-to-find scat keeps us coming back for more.
Our founder dog, Barley is a rescue. We're passionate about giving high-energy dogs the best life possible through work while providing the best ecological detection services possible to our partners and clients.
