Fund the journey to Toronto Fringe 2023

Hi, my name is Bryce Volrath and I am a writer/performer/director/producer in this year's Toronto Fringe Festival. I am raising funds for my production this year to cover rehearsal costs. Toronto is a wonderful city for theatre, but it is also the priciest portion of the production, rehearsal space. It's also the most important piece of my production because I'm attempting to do a one-person show with four actors, so it's ambitious, and tells my story of coming from Wisconsin to Toronto in "pursuit of fame, fortune, and everything that goes with it, which has been no bed of roses."(paraphrasing Queen)

It's the most personal play I've written because it is actually about me. Little to no masking with characters or stage magic, just me telling about a lot of feelings and expectations I had coming to a new country and what I thought I would find. It's interesting because usually I try to write comedies or plays I find funny, but this has that and also my own heart, which as human emotions do - contains "joy and pain, sunshine and rain" (paraphrasing Frankie Beverly & Maze).

This play is also important because I am telling my story through solo and vignette performance - taking portions of plays I've either written in the past, or ones I've made recently to describe what's been on my heart. So, I'm once again working with very talented people to tell a very personal story. It's an experiement, but one I'm excited to engage in because it's something I feel a lot of artists go/have gone through - wondering - pleading - retreating - just living lives while also trying to reach out for the stars. It's a tricky thing, and when you feel you've given everything, or nothing, or not sure how much you have given or need to give - it becomes trickier.

All funds will be used to fund the show. Currently, my goal is $1,000; however, were this to raise more - those funds would be used to cover other costs (i.e. Costuming, transportation, printing costs, cost of Fringe participation fees - which would cover the overall space and everything Fringe provides when you are picked in the lottery for the Festival).
