Man o’ War: Unleashed
Owner Samuel Riddle deemed him “a tiger.” Trainer Louis Feustel deemed him “too rebellious for racing.” Turf writer Joe Palmer deemed him "as near to a living flame as horses ever get." Feustel ultimately put a saddle on Man o’ War and, in 1919, unleashed a colossus.
Horse racing captivated the nation then, and Man o' War enlivened the masses as no runner ever had. Raw speed, a voracious stride and steely endurance at any distance stamped him a mythic figure, with bolstering credentials: In a two-year career he won 20 of 21 starts, raced at odds-on without exception, set seven track records and routinely scared away competition. Sports Illustrated, Associated Press and ESPN proclaimed him the greatest racing thoroughbred of the 20th century.
Join us as we track the life and times of this supernatural phenomenon, his unrelenting nature, his unlikely rise to stardom, his enduring fame even after he retired as racing's foremost purse-winner, $249,465. Riddle had bought the colt for $5,000 with aims to run him over jumps. "Man o' War: Unleashed" vividly depicts how Riddle's plan went so thrillingly awry.

Award winning producers Andrew Harper and Mike Garvey have been hard at work since the epiphany to create a documentary on Man o’ War in 2023. Starting the journey at Glen Riddle farm, MD to Saratoga Springs, NY and finally to the mecca of American horse racing, Lexington, Kentucky. We have many folks who have great stories about Big Red: the greatest jockeys of our era, Kentucky Derby winning trainers, owners, breeders, radio show personalities, and have found many descendants who are tied directly to the story of Man o’ War to share their stories . We are running full speed ahead in production (trying not to get stuck in the race track inner rail) and could use your support to get across the finish line.
We have the story! We have access! We have a team! WE NEED YOU!
We will use the funds to help defray costs, such as:
