We are proud educators at Betty Plasencia Elementary in Echo park and members of United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA). This week we are going on strike in solidarity with SEIU Local 99 members which include thousands of cafeteria workers, bus drivers, custodians, special education assistants, and other essential school workers in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).
They will lead a three-day strike from Tuesday, March 21 through Thursday, March 23 to protest the school district’s unfair practices.
By striking alongside SEIU, we are all giving up three days' pay. We're making that sacrifice because we believe that ALL workers in Los Angeles public schools deserve better pay and better living and working conditions. Generations of workers in the labor movement have shown us that we are stronger when we stand together!
Our school, Betty Plasencia Elementary has over 30 SEIU 99 Members that will be effected by the strike economically. We are asking our community members to pitch in to help our members join us on the picket line.
Please donate anything you can! All proceeds will be divided between our SEIU99 Plasencia members and any additional funds beyond the needed amount for strikers will be used for strike expenses.
Please help us so our SEIU99 partners can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with us as we fight for a better future!
