Fund The Education of a Future Fashion Historian
Donation protected
Hi!
If you’re here, it’s because in some way you support me. You may know me personally. You may know someone who supports me, and they’ve sent you here. You may have an interest in Black Fashion History. Or you may just be a person who supports Black creatives. Whatever it may be, something brought you here and I don’t take that for granted.
Because you’re here I want you to know exactly what you’re here to support. So, here’s a bit of history on the matter:
My name is Ameera Steward, and I am an aspiring fashion historian whose research is focused on Black Fashion History. I first fell in love with clothing and fashion by watching the Black women and men around me drape themselves in clothing, jewelry, make up, etc. In addition, as a child I spent many days watching my grandmother not only alter clothing through her business, but also create unique pieces from scratch. My family and community were my first introduction to what happens when Black culture and fashion intersect.
In October 2022 I decided to take a leap of faith by moving from Birmingham, Ala. to Jersey City, NJ and enrolling in the styling program at The Misa Hylton Fashion Academy (MHFA). Founded by stylist and designer Misa Hylton, a fundamental piece of Black Fashion History, MHFA is dedicated to educating future generations of fashion creatives such as myself.
As many of you may know, taking a leap of faith doesn’t come without great sacrifice and hard work. Although I’ve been working as hard as I can to bring my goals into fruition, I need the help of my community.
With that being said, if you can assist me in funding my fashion education, I would be eternally grateful.
The total balance owed is $2550 and has to be fully paid before I graduate in July. Donations will be accepted until then, however, over half of the balance has to be paid by June to ensure that I can participate in the final project.
Any donation helps and is greatly appreciated!
This will not only support the education of someone with the goal of passing down the knowledge acquired, but also the future of a business dedicated to continuously educating fashion professionals.
My ultimate goal is to provide the same eye-opening exposure I’ve experienced to others like me by creating a hub for all things Black Fashion History. From resources to clothing, I want to showcase all of the contributions made to the fashion industry by Black individuals through various forms of media.
I don’t take this work lightly, so please help a product of Black Fashion History create space for the future of Black Fashion History by donating what you see fit. I am grateful for it all.
Thank you for being a part of my journey!
