For generations, families living with Huntington’s Disease (HD) have faced a tragic reality: no treatment, no cure, and very little hope. Now, that is beginning to change. We are building something the HD community has never had before–a movement powered by the belief that together we can create a future without this disease and this could happen in our lifetime.

Huntington’s Disease is a progressive and fatal neurodegenerative disease. Each child of an affected parent faces a fifty percent chance of carrying the gene mutation, which means the disease persists across multiple generations within the same family. Affected families not only bear the emotional weight of losing loved ones time and time again, but also the financial burden of living with the disease. Families must manage the long term costs of medical care, the demands of becoming full time caretakers, and, ultimately, funeral expenses. The difficulties of Huntington’s Disease are carried forward both emotionally and financially, impacting families for generations.

For the first time, we are standing at the edge of a genuine scientific breakthrough. Researchers are closer than ever to slowing, stopping, or even preventing the devastating impact of HD. However, a cure on the shelf is not the same as a cure in the hands of affected families. Too many will be left behind if we do not act now to make sure that treatment is accessible by need, rather than by wealth.
