Fund for STEM League Summer Developer Program

OUR STORY

When my little sister got rejected from all the coding programs she applied to this summer, my twin sister and I came up with the idea to teach her coding ourselves instead. And that made my parents pretty happy, because they didn't want to see her lying around the house all summer (and rereading Harry Potter books).

However, we thought of all the students around the world who may be in the same position as her. At this time, it is difficult for young, bright students to find a stable form of learning, especially if they want to learn how to code. There are online classes, but creating an interactive person-to-person platform is a vital component to effective learning for many students.

So we thought, why can't we start our own summer immersion program for these students? And that's exactly what we did.

Today, we are launching STEM League's Developer Program, a free, virtual summer coding program for 6th - 10th graders all over the world. Our program will provide an enriching and exciting coding curriculum in web development and data programming.

WHY YOU SHOULD FUND US

We are a two person team and we need your help to fund our Developer Program.

This summer, we will be spending hours during our evenings and weekends crafting the curriculum for this program.

Therefore we need more funds for:

- Online communication platform where we can host classrooms for students to chat and practice coding problems

- On-boarding resources (technical tools setup) to provide a easy transition for students in our program

- Create a professional domain for our program site and market to target students

- Video-editing software for recording weekly lessons

- Technical equipment for creating quality videos on Youtube (Camera, Tripod, Monitor, External Microphone, Headphones)

- Hiring future volunteers to act as virtual mentors/tutors for students

We are finishing up with the planning stage for our learning curriculum and will start to focus on how to pre-record each lesson, the process of on-boarding new students, and how to provide an easy transition for them.

Therefore we need funds as soon as possible to start preparing necessary equipment and prepare on-boarding resources as we will admit students in mid-June.

We would be so grateful for your support in launching our program. We know this is a difficult time for many, but something we cannot take out of the picture is computer science education for the young minds that will craft our future. That is why we are here to close this gap in Computer Science Education for students who may not have the resources to participate in summer Coding Programs. We hope that by sharing our technical skills with young students, we can give back to the community.
