Fund Squee's Fight for Life

My little 9 lb maltese-terrier rescue, Squee, likes to go out for a "quick pee." I let her out the front door of my building, she piddles, comes back in and gets a treat. I always check to make sure there are no other dogs around because she's not good with them: she goes right into attack mode due to early trauma.

However, last night when I opened the apartment door to let her out, the screen door to the building was open and Squee ran right out. I ran after her but it didn't make a difference: a neighbor was walking his pit bull and when his dog was confronted by my ankle biter, the dog pulled so hard, my neighbor lost the leash. The pit bull got her: at one point he had her in his jaw by the neck.

Squee was in flight mode, but I was able to catch her, despite a few small bites. But I have never, ever heard her cry like that. This was not a bark, this was excruciating pain.

I took her to the Vet ER where we learned that Squee "should" have a punctured lung but by some miracle there is some sort of soft mass that is preventing air from getting in. However, she has several punctures all over her body - one particularly bad one on her neck - and is in critical condition.

Squee is now at the Oradell Animal Hospital, and will likely be there at least 1 more night. The prognosis is promising, but it could change in a heartbeat as dogs' bodies process trauma differently than human bodies: there is a chance her body will take blood away from vital organs to treat her wounds, which could also kill her. It doesn't help there is evidence Squee's early trauma was being used as a pit bull bait dog. She has sutures under her eye and on her neck. They are particularly worried about a deep puncture in her back = bacteria = sepsis.

So far, the bill is $20k and counting: she will be in the hospital at least 1 more night and may still need surgery. I have pet insurance, but it maxes out at $2k so I am asking for help as I am not a person of means. Please, please, please help me help my dog, Squee: she's all I have..
