Fund Simba's Second Chance at Life

For those concerned about the big brown dog confined in the small kennel on Highway 61 in Carrollton for the last 3.5 years, the dog has been rescued. The story began when the owner left the dog with his uncle at that address 3.5 years ago. Since then, the dog had been stuck in the kennel through pouring rain, freezing cold, and scorching heat, with only his food bowl for entertainment. Despite numerous calls, Animal Control did nothing. On one particularly cold and rainy day, I stopped by to check on the dog and found him standing in six inches of water. Even then, Animal Control claimed they couldn't act.

Because there were so many calls on the dog, Animal Control nicknamed him Todd the Dog, but his real name is Simba. A petition was also signed, but it led to no action.

In January of this year, I managed to contact the dog’s owner through his uncle. The owner stated “it was an entitlement thing to keep the dog in the kennel.” I tried to convince him to let me take the dog, but he refused and told me Many others wanted to take him too and had even offered him money.

Fast forward to This past Monday, the owner called and said I could take the dog if I gave him $3,500. I negotiated the ransom down to $2,500 and picked up Simba yesterday. He still needs to be vetted and neutered, and I’m looking for a loving forever home for him. Simba, a 4-year-old lab mix, is very sweet and just wants to be loved. Here are some pictures of his rescue. The smile on his face when he was finally able to run and play was indescribable. The owner’s mother, who took the money and released the dog, told me they only fed him one cup of food a day to keep him from getting fat since he couldn’t run around and exercise. It’s heartbreaking that he lost so many years in that cage, but he’s free now.

I hate to ask for money, but I couldn’t afford the $2,500 ransom. If anyone who was concerned about Simba could contribute, I would be most grateful. Also if anyone is interested in adopting him, please reach out to me here. I will ensure he goes to a home where he’ll have a beautiful life. PS: Simba slept on a dog bed for the first time in 3.5 years last night!
