Hello! My name is Seraphim (Mason) Hook. I am the President of the Saint Sava Society of Orthodox Christians, a newly recognized club at Oregon State University. The Saint Sava Society, is currently the only Recognized Student Organization for Eastern Orthodox Christians on campus. Our club is open to students, ecampus students and community members.
The main focus of our club is fellowship... The founding members and I have felt that academic institutions and their worldly ideologies make Orthodox students feel isolated. This club strives to stand as a beacon of fellowship in the sea of secular society.
Our secondary focus is on community volunteer work. It is our duty as Orthodox Christians to love our neighbor and help those in need. There are many programs in Oregon to which we can volunteer and help, however, we can not guarantee that those program values align with Orthodox values. The solution to this issue is to organize volunteer events ourselves.
Our last focus is to bring more awareness to Orthodoxy. There is a lack of Eastern Orthodox representation in the public, especially on college campuses here in the United States. We wish to bring awareness to the beautiful Truth that is our faith. We firmly believe in the evangelization method of "Come and see", and by our presence on campus, we hope that we can plant the seed of Orthodoxy that motivates people to want to learn more about our God Jesus Christ and His church.
That is why we are humbly asking for financial support so that we can get our club off the ground. We are seeking general club funding that will allow us to buy a table, custom table cover, banner, flyers, Orthodox literature, icons and a wagon. If there are any remaining funds, they will be split 60/40, the 40% which would be saved for future club expenses and the 60% will be put towards buying non-perishable food goods, clothing and blankets that we can give to those in need. We are currently self-funding and any donation would be a blessing.
If you are a local community member near the Oregon State University campus and can't give financially but still wishes to help, please reach out and inquire into becoming a member.
Thank you; Please pray for us,
-Seraphim (Mason) Hook
