Recent events have highlighted flagrant acts of racism and injustice directed at people of colour throughout North America. The death of George Floyd has sparked a worldwide social justice movement towards equitable rights and protections for all.
The University of Ottawa women’s basketball team stands in solidarity with the victims of racism and those fighting to eliminate it. Our current team and alumni have joined the battle against racial injustice. Together, we will run 1666 KM from the University of Ottawa to Minneapolis, Minnesota. While creating awareness, we will raise $1 per kilometre and donate the money to organizations in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
We continually commit to educating ourselves and the people around us, as well as standing up for the rights and the lives of black people. The injustices that racialized people face has long deserved recognition and reparation. Now is the time to unite and voice the hurt that has been felt for too many years.
