Hello! If you've ever met Ruby, you know how special she is. She loves everyone she sniffs and is the worst guard dog on earth. She will snuggle you out of bed and steal your spot on the couch. We love her so much. She's our baby girl, our pocket pit.
Mid-September this year, after her yearly checkup, we noticed a tennis ball sized lump on the inside of her hind leg. She had been healthy as a horse at her appointment and was just living life when this popped up out of nowhere. Her vets were concerned it was a strange hematoma (swollen bruise) so we took light action on it and watched it for a few weeks. After a round of steroids, it went down, but when she was weaned off the steroid, the lump became angry and inflamed. It began to extend down her leg and turned beet red, with tissue fluid eventually moving into other parts of her body. Every ER doctor we saw said we needed a biopsy and a full workup/scan to diagnose this mysterious and scary lump.
What we know today is it is aggressive and fast growing and needs to be removed. In order to do so, it needs to be properly diagnosed with all the bells and whistles which will then lead us to a prognosis. We assume that the bills will continue to grow like this tumor and the timing is less than ideal. We are expecting our second baby any day, due October 28th. We lost our beloved Loki dog too soon to a sudden aggressive cancer just two years ago when our first baby was three months old, so this circumstance feels like deja vu. We never thought we'd need to fundraise for vet bills, but this tumor is giving us a run for our money.
Ruby is in okay spirits and everyone at each facility we've visited has quickly turned to mush just spending time with her. Unfortunately we do need to ask for help this time around. Thank you for reading this far and learning our story. Please spread the word and share to any lovers of doggy bed hogs you can think of. We appreciate you tremendously.
