Based in South Florida, RONIN TAIKO performers practice wadaiko, or Japanese drumming. They travel frequently to Japan to train with taiko Sensei (teachers) and further develop their physical and mental discipline in this art form. With additional training backgrounds ranging from martial arts to dance and theatre, RONIN TAIKO hopes to continue bringing Japanese Taiko performances to wider audiences.
We will keep this request simple since what we need is simple. The money from this funding program will go directly into helping us tour the state of Florida. Currently, we have 7 performances on our schedule before the end of the year. These performances include non-profit organizations like the Morikami Japanese Gardens, The Children's Diagnostic Treatment Center, and Palm Beach State College. The costs that we absorb with this touring includes U-Haul truck rentals, replacing broken sticks, and repairing the skin on our drums, stage props, and lighting/sound equipment. Since our goal is to spread the word about Wadaiko, we often play for little or no money. The $2,500 requested on this program will go to helping us put together the best representation of Japanese drumming possible when visiting schools, hospitals, and other organizations in the community.
Any gift will be truly appreciated as it will be a part of every performance Ronin Taiko has throughout the U.S.
