Hi! My name is Charlie Atkinson; I'm a fourth year Film and Media student from Queen Margaret University and this go fund me is to help fund my dissertation film 'The Maiden Stone'. We are a completely self-funded, student led production so support from the community is going to be vital when it comes to ensuring that 'The Maiden Stone' is made to the standard it deserves.

SYNOPSIS:

In Aberdeenshire, around 700AD, it is well known that the maiden is the best baker in the village. One day, a strange man comes into the bakery and proposes a bet to her; if she can bake 50 bannocks before he can build a road up Bennachie (the local mountain) he will offer her a prize. If he wins, he takes her hand in marriage. The maiden agrees to these terms knowing she can win but quickly after the challenge begins she finds the road is already built and the strange man reveals his secret.

The History:

The Maiden Stone is a 3m-tall-cross-slab of pinkish granite, dating to sometime after AD 700. It's a sculptural delight. Bearing both characteristic Pictish symbols and what may be a biblical scene. Plenty of local folklore exists around the Maiden Stone.
