Hello,
Arisael Rivera speaking, I'm the co-founder of Word To The People.
The original idea was to bring these good classic works to, well, YOU, the people.
We had the awesome opportunity to do that for one night only in Brooklyn with a staged reading of "Macbeth." It was a great experience. It was also brief.
A lot has happened since then, but now we have our next great idea.
"As You Like It."
That’s right, Shakespeare's funny, romantic, and heartfelt comedy!
We want to bring it to you.
But, we need your help.
You see, our "Macbeth" was made possible thanks to a City Artists Corps Grant. These came out the year after the COVID-19 pandemic.
It was a way to help artists in NYC get back on their feet after the devastating global impact of that pandemic.
We have some funds ready for this project, but it won't be enough to bring this show to life.
We have an ambitious plan.
We’d like to be with you for two weekends.
A fully realized, amazing production. For free!
We have an amazing adaptation by Gavin Witt, the same guy who adapted our "Macbeth."
And of course, our very own Thea Brooks, co-founder of Word To The People, will be on stage as Jacques!
All sounds good to me.
So we're looking to raise $3000.
This money will help us pay all of our actors a performer stipend of $500 for two weeks of rehearsal and two weekends of performances. It will also help pay our stage manager and music director, and get our much-needed liability insurance.
With your help, we can bring this amazing play to life.
Love, family drama, sisterhood, a wrestling match, bad poetry, great music, the outdoors, disguises, and mistaken identities, the play has it all!
So what do you say, will you help us bring this play, these words, to you?
