We started Open Call LA because we were tired of waiting for permission to build the community we actually needed. Coming up in LA's film and writing scene, we kept watching the same thing happen. Talented writers and filmmakers with nowhere to actually meet each other outside of expensive workshops, closed sets, or industry events you need a connection to even hear about. So we built the thing we wished existed. Open Call LA is a free creative community for LA filmmakers and writers, structured around four things we think actually move people forward: Production, Education, Community, and Creation. We already have a directory of close to 50 filmmakers and writers finding each other through Open Call LA. We're planning our first in person Writing Mixer, a Virtual Writing Meeting for people who can't always make it out, and we're building toward supporting actual member led productions, because talking about making things is not the same as making them. Every dollar raised here funds venue costs for the mixer, hosting for the directory, and gear and crew support for the productions our members are already trying to make happen. We're not asking you to fund a pitch deck. We're asking you to fund people who are already showing up and doing the work.
