Funding Ninetta Sombart's Centennial Exhibitions in the U.S.

Dear Family of Friends and Admirers of Ninetta Sombart-Bruckner’s Artwork,

This letter is to announce that in 2025, 100 years after Ninetta Sombart’s birth in Berlin on May 2nd, 1925, several exhibitions of her paintings are being planned! This will be a unique opportunity to see the original paintings, which most only know from prints or a single altar painting.

One exhibit is scheduled for the Cultural Arts Center in Ytterjärna, Sweden, this coming July, which is being organized by my sister Corinna and her husband Dag Balavoine.

A second exhibit is planned for the Goetheanum, Dornach, Switzerland, October-January, with the help of my younger brother, Philip Bruckner.

The third exhibit, for which I am responsible, is to travel this coming spring to three different locations on the East Coast of the United States. The projected venues are Rose Hall, in the Camphill Village of Kimberton Hills, Pennsylvania, The Threefold Auditorium in Chestnut Ridge, and Lightforms Art Center in Hudson, New York.

The dates for these shows are still being decided on, but the plan is that they will be consecutive, each lasting ten days (so as to include two weekends), around the time of Easter.

The proposal is that I will give several lectures and a gallery tour, as I did for the exhibition in London, as well as offer painting workshops as an introduction to some of my mother’s techniques and philosophy, allowing for a greater insight into the life and creative process of this groundbreaking and original artist.

In the States, paintings owned by the family will be on display, as well as several that were gifted to the Christian Community in Chestnut Ridge. A few of the very rare pictures which Ninetta painted while still in America in a style known as “Magic Realism” will be shown for the first time ever. The show is to include some fifteen pictures altogether, depending on the space of each location.

None of the paintings are being offered for sale, but prints and postcards will be available, as well as the link to the website from which one can order prints of any size, choosing from a wide selection.

There may also be an occasion to show the BBC interview, which Ninetta gave with the well-known interviewer, Jonathan Stedall.

To pursue such an undertaking always requires more capital than originally imagined! I have had to realize that I am not in the position to do all which is required without significant financial backing.

Here are some of the projected expenses:
  • Each painting must have an individual casement made in order to be safely transported.
  • A brochure, a poster, and flyers need to be designed and printed.
  • The paintings, especially the ones on loan, must be properly insured.
  • Proper lighting and hanging fixtures must be procured.
  • Transportation, gas, and mileage must be reimbursed as well as the accommodations for two people “on the road” for a month.

The hope is that the talks, tours, and art lessons will support my needs to have an income during this time, but cannot be expected to cover any of the other expenses, which are now roughly projected to be about $15,000.

So that is the reason for me writing to you, hoping you are glad to see this coming about and are willing to support it, so that it can actually happen!

Thank you on behalf of all those who cherish my mother’s singular contribution to our ability to perceive the spirit in matter.
