I started this page for my mother. She has been battling metastatic lung cancer (Stage 4) since Jan of 2015. We found late that snowy January night that she had extensive lung cancer that had spread from her lungs to her adrenals, breast, and brain. The cancer in her brain was in a critical area that could have been fatal if it had not been found at the time that they did. She underwent surgery to remove part of the brain tumor and two weeks of radiation. The cancer was so extensive in her body that she was not eligible to receive conventional chemotherapy. The doctors told us that she had between 6-12 months to live... Yale took her on to a clinical trial for a dual immunotherapy treatment regimen. She received those treatments once a week for about 3 months until she was hospitalized that August for massive weight loss and intractable nausea related to pancreatitis from the treatments, we thought we were about to lose her... She has not received a treatment since that time and has still been going to Yale every three months for MRI of the brain and full body CT scans to evaluate the progress of her cancer. THIS is the miracle of this whole story!! Her cancer has disappeared!! Shortly after the treatments started the tumors all over her body began to recede. My mother and my entire family have all witnessed a medical marvel and MIRACLE!! She has virtually beaten metastatic cancer.
The reason for this page.. Because of the brain surgery, brain radiation, and extensive treatments she has undergone, my mother still suffers from short term memory loss, imbalance and chronic fatigue and is unable to go back to work at this time as the amazing propane sales manager that she was before her life turned upside down. It is three years later and she still has to go to Yale every three months for scans to monitor the cancer progress, some small tumors have come and gone on her lungs and brain but have been mostly stable. With all of these medical bills, she only has her SS/disability to attempt to pay the massive amount of medical bills and to try to help my father pay for their home..
She has been given more time with us in this lifetime to be the amazing mother and caring person that she is but is unable to leave the house most days because she just simply has to save the little money that she has. So why now am I making this page?? It is three years past her diagnosis and she is still unable to work and of course we were hoping that she would have been able to MUCH sooner. I have helped out the best I can with funds and have stayed home these last three years to help pay bills and debts but it is time for me to move out and start a life of my own. My mother needs help to pay for these medical bills so that she can try have the life that medicine has given back to her. The goal amount I put is just an estimate, anything would be a world of help for her and my father. If you donate, thank you so very much!! and if not, I am happy you read my mothers story and hope that it gives you hope for your loved ones if they are experiencing medical hardships such as this. I am a nurse and occasionally share her story with patients and their families who are going through similar times in hopes that it will give them an inch of comfort.
Love you mom! Love, Casey
