Fund Musicians and Artists for Summer on Strong
Donation protected
We don’t wish to just move past 2020 and return to normal in 2021. We are attempting to rebuild some of that Northampton vibrancy and create something different, something fun to look forward to in downtown this summer. We are attempting to create a lively outdoor multi-use dining space, purposefully designed with landscaping and aesthetic lighting to beautify what normally would be a two way street. This space would not only serve as extended dining space to provide a boost for four downtown restaurants, but it would also open up opportunities for local retailers as well as artists and musicians.
Through an effort to expand outdoor dining capacity with our neighbors, a unique project came together. We have come together to create a street project called “Summer on Strong.” Strong Avenue would be safely closed from the ramp of Eastside Grill nearly down to main street starting on Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. The street would have decorated entrances on either ends with trellises and flower planters, and the space would be populated with trees, palms, arbs, and planters to create an intimate green space with a park feel but on pavement. There will be a pergola near the center of the space to use as an entertainment venue to bring live music and much needed employment to musical artists. Dining areas will be set up by the adjacent restaurants, Eastside Grill, Homestead, Familiars, and Local Burger, with space to have pop up restaurants. We are also hoping to use the space for artists to display their works along an art walk through the center.
However exciting this is, we cannot create such an environment alone. We would love to extend to you an opportunity to join us in creating such a distinctive, beautiful area that would provide aid to the Strong avenue restaurants as well as space for residents and visitors to enjoy and talk about. If we could accomplish building this space, to the best of our ability, it’s something we hope will be such a success that it will be something we can all look forward too year after year. “Summer on Strong” an exciting draw to our downtown.
The funds raised here will be used entirely for musicians and artists. We are hoping to raise enough to afford at least three performances a week from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
