Muons, Inc. was founded 20 years ago by scientists and engineers from national labs who used particle accelerator “atom smashers” to discover and study the smallest objects in the universe.
We have since tackled some of the hardest scientific and technical problems, always with one mission: to build solutions that benefit people and the planet.
Now, we’re working on one of the most promising breakthroughs yet:
A safer kind of small nuclear reactor called MuSTAR — designed to produce clean energy without the risk of meltdowns, without weapons concerns, and by reusing existing nuclear waste.
But to prove this new approach works outside of theory and simulations, we need your help.

Why This Matters:
With MuSTAR, Nuclear waste becomes a resource, not a danger.
MuSTAR can safely unlock 10x more energy from the nuclear waste already sitting in storage across the U.S.
No meltdown risk.
Our design operates subcritically, meaning the reactor can’t “run away” like older models. A particle accelerator beam that hits a target in the reactor to produce neutrons is the key to subcritical operation.
No risk of significant accidental radioactive releases.
The molten salt fuel is circulated to continuously remove volatile materials from the reactor.
The elimination of these two risks greatly reduces regulatory hurdles and eases licensing.

We are developing accelerator innovations so that MuSTAR can bring power to remote areas, underserved communities, and help replace fossil fuels everywhere.
One superconducting accelerator can economically drive many MuSTAR reactors in a small footprint to serve large metropolitan areas for large and immediate climate impact.
