Fund Madeline's Dyslexia Screening and Support
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Sarah Corwin and I’m kindly asking for help to give my daughter, Madeline, the gift of intensive Summer reading support and a dyslexia evaluation.
Madeline is a joy-filled 3rd grader. She was evaluated early in the school year and found to have specific learning delays in reading and math, along with short term memory issues. She has been going to speech therapy twice a week for articulation and literacy, as well as a myriad of medical specialties as we continue to figure out if there are physical conditions affecting her ability to learn, particularly learning to read.
We are now at the end of the school year where she has received support services all year in the classroom. We have exhausted our medical insurance for therapy and Madeline is still reading almost a year behind grade level. We now need to utilize private pay learning specialists to not only help her maintain and improve reading skills over the Summer, but also provide us further testing to target how to help Madeline with her learning delays. One area of concern based on how slow her progress has been with so much direct intervention is that she has dyslexia. It is a special medical diagnosis and not provided with her public school evaluation.
We have found two avenues of support: May and June receiving tutoring support in reading at Sylvan learning center, followed by a transfer of services to the Ark Institute for a Summer reading group and placed on the waitlist for evaluation of learning disabilities including dyslexia.
Each month of reading support will cost around $500 or more and her evaluation will be anywhere from $800-$1200. Once we have a clear picture, the Ark institute will be able to provide 1:1 learning support which can continue well into next school year and beyond. We have already paid $488 plus the cost of assessment to Sylvan learning center to begin reading intervention.
We would be so grateful for any support towards helping our sweet girl. All therapists and medical professionals helping her quickly become attached as she is so joyful and loving. I would love for her to make gains this Summer to keep up with her peers, before she realizes her learning differences and may become discouraged with school.
Please look at the website https://www.arkinst.org/about for an idea of this wonderful nonprofit organization. They also provide scholarships for families in need and so all donations will stretch even further.
We are humbled by our family and friends who read this gofundme and consider helping provide the immediate support Madeline needs to thrive. We will be adding you in our daily family prayers and ask you to reach out to us if there are specific intentions we could pray for on your behalf. May God bless your generosity.
