Hello everyone, apologies in advance for not knowing how to properly start this; it’s my first time. But as of 07/22/2025, my brother Luis Torres, age 34,passed away approximately between the hours of 4:30 pm-6:30 pm. My brother was battling depression after his wife left and was restricting him contact with his daughter, my niece, Penelope. After 1 year of separation from his family, he rented the ADU in the back. I tried helping him, pushing him, encouraging him to keep trying, to keep pushing, to keep moving forward. Along with depression he was dealing with being overweight, sleep apnea, and high blood pressure. He had a lot going on, He was 6’3, weighing in around 500 lbs. but was taking the steps to bettering his health. He visited Martin Luther King Hospital on July 21 at 11 pm for something completely unrelated to his other issues. He went to check an ulcer as recommended by his physician and let them know about his chronic back pain that had been worsening. They discharged him on July 22, approximately at 2 am (3 hours later) and got home at 3:30 am; I saw him through the Ring camera. I spoke to him at 8 am, 9:30 am, and 11:30 am. He explained to me that the medicine they gave him was very strong, that he felt very high. I encouraged my brother to take a cold shower and did not understand the reason for why he was given such strong medication without monitoring before discharging him in that state. I got home approximately at 7 pm on July 22 to a cold brother that was not breathing. I tried doing CPR while on the phone with 911. Paramedics arrived and attempted to get a pulse, but they said it was too late; he had been deceased for 2 hours or more. The reason I am here right now truly breaks my heart! I am the last one out of the litter and cannot bear that my family cannot afford an internal autopsy. The coroner said the cost will approximately be $12,000 for the autopsy. This does not include all the funeral costs. We want closure, and I know we cannot always have that luxury, but I am here asking for a hand, please. To confirm if he overdosed on the medication that was given or if the medication prevented him from waking up to breathe. Please, I am just asking for any help to give him a proper burial.
