Hello, my name is Laney Stroop. I am currently a sophomore at Hawaii Pacific University and working towards my bachelor’s in marine biology. I am very excited to have been accepted to participate in a shark research internship for a week in June 2025 through Coastal Marine Education and Research Academy (C.M.E.R.A.) in Clearwater, Florida. I have been fascinated with sea life, especially sharks, since I was a little girl and can’t wait to get hands-on experience with what I love.
This opportunity will provide me with valuable education and hands-on experience alongside a professional biologist. I will have classroom hours each day, as well as being out on the boat 6 hours a day. I will learn how to set and retrieve various types of research gear, how to handle and properly tag sharks and rays with different types of tags and techniques, as well as collect tissue samples. Through this experience, I will be working alongside a professional biologist and assisting with ongoing research projects that are focused on marine conservation. Through this experience, I will enhance my research skills and techniques, as well as advance my overall knowledge in my field of study, which will be beneficial to my future career.
The money raised will assist in covering the cost of my enrollment in the program, housing, and transportation. I appreciate you taking the time to read my story. If you are unable to donate at this time, I would ask that you please share via social media for others to see.
