Hello! I've been impacted by the Grand Canyon fires and am raising funds.
In 2023 I started a business shuttling hikers to trailheads throughout the Grand Canyon. This was the year I hoped to pay off all my loans and turn profitable. Due to the Grand Canyon fires I will have to cancel out future business for the rest of the year. My fees and insurance costs will out way future income. The funds raised in this Go Fund Me will be used so I can start a documentary production company. The plan will be edit a documentary about my friend Michael McCulloch, a retired NASA engineer, who hiked Rim 2 Rim last year. We also plan to film a documentary this October as Michael joins ten other blind hikers in an attempt to be the largest group of blind hikers to summit Mount Kilimanjaro.
Sharing the story of Michael hiking the Grand Canyon will not only inspire visually impaired people to seek adventure, it shall also inspire sighted folks to reach out and help someone with visual impairment to plan for and enjoy an adventure like ours.
Story
Sharing the story of Michael hiking the Grand Canyon will not only inspire visually impaired people to seek adventure, it shall also inspire sighted folks to reach out and help someone with visual impairment to plan for and enjoy an adventure like ours.
RIM 2 RIM BLIND is a documentary that follows retired NASA engineer Michael McCulloch as he attempts to hike the Grand Canyon from the North Rim to the South Rim. In the four years it took to plan and execute this adventure Michael taught me much about visual impairment. The actual hike has been completed and filmed with proper permits through the Grand Canyon National Park. We are now seeking funding to do extensive audio work so that visually impaired audience members can feel like they're along for the ride. Funding will also be used to create graphics and record high quality interviews from Michael McCulloch, his sight guides, top Grand Canyon geologists, biologists, and other parties involved with the development of and on going research in the International Space Station.
Funding will allow us to not only tell the story of Michael hiking Rim 2 Rim, yet to leave the viewer with a vast knowledge of the Grand Canyon, the history of the International Space Station, and a better understanding of what it's like to live visually impaired.
Who is Michael McCulloch? Michael graduated from Rice University in Houston Texas with a masters in electrical and electronic engineering just a few years before President Regan announced he would direct NASA to develop a permanently manned space station. Rice University has connections to NASA dating back to 1959. While sighted Michael began his work with Boeing and NASA in their space shuttle department. In his late twenties Michael began to experience vision loss due to degenerative glaucoma. Boeing and NASA integrated software to keep Michael employed as his vision gradually diminished over the next two decades.
Press about Michael McCulloch:
Who is Krocky Meshkin? A bit about me, your filmmaker and Grand Canyon expert: At age eighteen I moved to Los Angeles, CA to study audio engineering. I'm passionate about sound design, music composition, and building deep immersive audio in my projects. In my twelve years working in Hollywood I got to work with great artists like Clint Eastwood, Steven Spielberg, Jon Favreau, and David Fincher. I was Jimmy Smits' stand-in on the Warner Bros. Television series The West Wing. I got to star in a few national commercials, and got one of my songs on season one of the hit cartoon series Rick and Morty. All in all I began to burn out on life in the city, my heart was in nature, and throughout that time in Hollywood I didn't get the chance to make a film I was trulypassion about. Creating Michael's documentary will be greatly fulfilling for me as an artist. It will be a chance for me to combine my audio skills, film making skills, and passion for the Grand Canyon and helping others into one project.
In 2016 I moved to the Grand Canyon National Park to work as a Jeep guide. Suddenly I'd gone from a city of millions of people, to living in a town of five hundred people with no WiFi. In almost all my free time I was hiking the Grand Canyon and trail running in the National Forest. By the spring of 2016 I'd become a step-on guide for Disney's Adventure's by Disney tours speaking in front of groups of forty to fifty people two times a week. Between the Jeep guiding, Disney tours, my personal hikes, and desire to read and research I rapidly became a knowledgeable Grand Canyon guide. In 2017 I started a YouTube channel called Grand Canyon TV and began passing on my knowledge to the masses. Michael and I first met through a comment he'd left on one of my videos in August of 2020.
Funds from this gofundme will go to Andrew DeCrocker. Andrew DeCrocker is my legal name. In 2005 when I joined the Screen Actors guild I decided to use my nick name Krocky, and family name Meshkin. Meshkin is an Americanized Lithuanian name which was lost when my grandfather died at age 32 and grandmother remarried.
The funds from this godundme will be used to do post production on the Rim to Rim Blind Project as well as begin pre production on the Kilimanjaro Blind project. Essentially because of the Grand Canyon fires I am now out of a job. Your donations will help me transition into this career switch.
