Hi, my name is Katie. I’m recovering from a major hip reconstruction surgery that will allow me to walk again called a PAO surgery. I’m reaching out for support to help cover the essential costs of recovery.

I’ve been diagnosed with a torn labrum, Cam FAI, hip dysplasia, and a torn adductor muscle. Hip dysplasia is a bone structural issue where the hip socket is too shallow to properly support the joint. This leads to degradation of surrounding tissues and eventually leads to early osteoarthritis.

After over 2 years of searching for answers, failed procedures, insurance denials, delayed care and treatment…I finally have a treatment plan that offers the best chance at a lasting recovery: a Periacetabular Osteotomy (PAO) to reconstruct my pelvis bone along with an arthroscopic repair of damaged soft tissues. These procedures will be performed by a hip preservation specialist in Boulder, CO, one of the few surgeons in the country trained to perform them which is why I must seek care in another state.

My surgeries took place on November 4th and November 10th. At this time, I have no income. My partner who is my primary caregiver during recovery will also be unable to work while we are out of state.

I must stay in Boulder until the end of January to receive PT from the PAO Team.

Estimated expenses include:
 • $1,300/ month for temporary, accessible housing 
 • $1,000–$1,500 for medical equipment and mobility aids 
 • $4,000 in medical costs and bills already incurred
• $500/month for food, OT medicines, & propane
