Howdy folks, Jed and Eli Allen here!
We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve been invited to create a short film for this year’s Damnationland, a celebrated Maine-based film festival that showcases original horror and dark fiction from local filmmakers. The main event premieres October 30th at Portland’s iconic State Theatre, followed by a tour across Maine and beyond.
We’re honored to be a part of this tradition, and even more excited to represent our hometown of Buckfield and the wider Western Maine community. When we started dreaming up our story, we knew we wanted it to reflect the land we call home, its history, its mystery, and its deep, sometimes eerie beauty.
Our short film, "MINE." , is inspired by Maine’s gem boom of the 1970s, a fascinating chapter in local history. With legendary finds like the “Rose of Maine” discovered right in Buckfield, the story of treasure buried deep beneath the earth was begging for a horror twist. And let’s be honest: mines make a perfect setting for a supernatural descent into darkness. So what is this film about?
Set in the dying days of a failing mine lease; A desperate man uncovers a supernatural gem that promises untold riches, at a cost his family can't afford. What follows is a descent into obsession—where generational debt, pride, and buried trauma collide with an ancient force pulsing beneath the Maine wilderness. The earth speaks. Are you willing to listen?
This is the most ambitious project we’ve ever tackled. We’re aiming to assemble a talented team of cast and crew, secure top-notch equipment, and create a high quality production that does justice to the story, and that’s where you come in.
Your donations will go directly toward:
- Hiring skilled local crew and actors
- Renting essential gear
- Building sets and sourcing props
- Covering submission fees for film festivals nationwide
We want to make something that stands out on the big screen, and something you can be proud to say you helped create. This is more than a horror film, it’s a heartfelt (and hair-raising) tribute to the people and places of Western Maine. Thank you for considering a donation, and for helping us bring "MINE." to life.
Let’s make something unforgettable together.
With Love,
Jed & Eli Allen
