Snapshot
My dream is to expand mental health understanding across the multicultural arena, implementing ground-level changes as well as a vision for Japan and the U.S.A., through the short-term goal of the Sophia Exchange, facilitating Japanese language development and growth as well as cultural dignity, complementing a Fulbright in research for the mutual application of tools for Japan and the U.S.A.
Hey, Supporter.
I am an undergraduate at the University of North Florida, Jacksonville, heading into my senior year. I had the honor of doing a study abroad in Japan for two weeks this summer. Since then, I have started to go to a Japanese language class at a local church and Bible study. Academically, I have picked up Japanese 101 online for Fall 2025. I am a psychology major and a religion minor with the hopes of doing clinical mental health counseling in graduate school. I am enjoying doing supervised research this summer as well, and I plan to do research in clinical mental health counseling as I progress. My long-term goal would be to do a Fulbright grant in research in Japan for a year after getting my master's. I plan on taking Japanese 102 in the Spring of 2026, as the Fulbright has a two-year language requirement, which would be half finished by Summer 2026. I have come across an opportunity to do the language 103 in Japan Summer 2026 at Sophia University in Japan. It is a month-long intensive Japanese language course. I am saving for graduate school and do not have the funds to support myself for this opportunity. After graduate school, I would need to take my fourth and final Japanese language course before doing a Fulbright. This fundraising is for the in-between but important step of funding Summer 2026 at Sophia University. Any amount will help. If you can donate $5 or $50, it will all be useful.
Further Details: A Fulbright is an honorable program funded by the United States in order to foster mutually benefiting academic relationships between other countries and the U.S. Research is specific type of Fulbright reward that I am setting myself up to receive . This research will entail a year long research project in Japan. Preparing for this takes years of learning the Japanese language and culture as well as academic success. I need a mentor for a Fulbright in research. Sophia University would expose me to a Japanese University setting where research is being done.
Beyond the Fulbright, working in research with mental health connections is a fictional fancy that fascinates my imagination. Mental health is a field that requires great emotional energy, that stimulates questions of mankind’s fragile but resilient clay house that we call a body, infused with spirit, soul, and ambition to be distinguished. I intend to harness this ambition through research oriented in bridging the divide between East and West, exploring niche gap areas in research between Japan and the United States.
