Fund Jackets for Unified Athletes

Hello! My name is Donna, and I’m a special education teacher at Montgomery High School in search of some financial help to get letterman jackets for three very deserving students.

This year my students were members of the Unified Track Team. Unified Sports partners my students with their neurotypical peers in training and participating as teammates in track and field. It’s one of many wonderful facets of inclusion-culture at my school!

A little background on my three student athletes:

Jay: Last year, as a junior, he did not join the team since he was unable to make it to the Saturday meets because he was working on his Uncle’s ranch, but he still attended practice, helping out his classmates however he could. This year he proved to be a loyal and dedicated teammate. He attended every practice during lunch, even filling in for missing students when practicing for the 4 x 1 or 100 meter relays. He continued to show his commitment to the team this year by reminding me of practice days, and supporting the girls 4 x 1 team when they were practicing for the CIF State championships.

Maria and Ruty: I’m so proud of these girls! At a Unified Track and Field camp they were not exactly thrilled with the “heavy” shot put, but they were motivated to try every event. At the CIF qualifier they had a little extra strength and focus in comparison to their teammates, which I believe helped them place third! After that I had the Adaptive PE coach work with them to practice their form and technique. They practiced hard every day in PE for the next three weeks. The result? They placed runner up at the San Diego County Finals! These girls had no previous experience and yet were still able to make improvements and win!

I know that each of them receiving a letterman jacket will serve as a great testament to their dedication and hard work. It will also be a source of pride in themselves for representing their school. Would you please help me in recognizing these awesome students?
