- Hi, my name is Melanie and I am trying to raise finances to assist my friend and co-worker to receive a life saving surgery for her baby. During a routine prenatal ultrasound, Sheila was informed that her baby has Stage IV Myelomeningocele Spina Bifida. Time is of the essence for Sheila to have surgery in an attempt to correct this birth defect to provide the best possible outcome for the baby. Unfortunately, the health insurance company has labeled the surgery as "experimental or investigational" and will not approve, although statistics show an 80% success rate with very low risk to Mom. Instead, the insurance company has suggested that an alternate treatment be performed, that has a 20-30% success rate and a very high risk to the baby and Mom's lives. Sheila will need to pay for this surgery out of pocket and as you can imagine, this will not be cheap and any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated, no amount is too small.
