'Hero-Man' is a comedy drama that subverts the superhero genre and the inspiration porn present in disabled stories. Archie is a neurodivergent, comic-book-obsessed boy, parading the streets at night as ‘Hero-Man’ - an incompetent vigilante on a quest for fame… and justice. But Archie’s fantasy isn’t all it’s chalked up to be and finding the balance between his sense of self and the growing pressures of the hero life proves more difficult than he could imagine.
'Hero-Man' turns the focus on neurodivergence, the expectations of masking and the effects on ourselves and the people around us. Written by a neurodivergent Director, stories that centre disabled characters is something the cast & crew want to push to a modern audience. We want to encourage and facilitate stories that show our true experiences without idealising. This film is a chance to break the mould of the superhero and neurodiverse tropes in fiction.
