UPDATE -Hi everyone, I have an important update regarding my GoFundMe for the University of York archaeology field school program. First, I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has donated and shared my link and your support means the world to me.
After meeting with my academic advisor at UCF, I’ve had to make the tough decision to withdraw from this specific program. We realized that the curriculum won't fulfill the 3 full credits I need for my degree track. More importantly, it focuses heavily on heritage studies and won't count as the traditional archaeological field school I need for grad school and my future career in forensic (hopefully) anthropology.
Due to all of this, I will not be attending this specific trip, but I am actively looking for an approved field school that meets my degree requirements. I plan to hold onto the current donations to use toward the tuition of the new field school once I find the right fit. However, since the original plan has changed, if anyone would prefer a refund of their donation, please let me know. Otherwise, your generous support will still go directly toward my hands-on archaeological training.
Thank you all again for being so supportive and understanding!
Hi, my name is Gabriella Restifo, and I am currently finishing my bachelor’s degree as an Anthropology major with a certification in Criminal Justice. I am almost finished, but in order to graduate, I am required to complete an archaeology field school.
I have been accepted into the University of York Global Summer Archaeology program, which provides hands on excavation training and real world archaeological experience. This field school is not optional for me. It is a graduation requirement and a crucial step in building the practical skills needed for my career.
Throughout my degree, I have studied human history, culture, and the material remains of past societies. However, archaeology is learned not only in the classroom but in the field. This program will allow me to gain professional excavation experience, learn proper recording and surveying techniques, and work alongside experienced archaeologists. These are skills that graduate programs and employers look for.
The total cost includes tuition, travel, housing, and required materials. As a full time student, and someone who also works part time, these expenses are difficult for me to cover on my own. I am asking for support so I can complete this final requirement and graduate with my degree.
This opportunity will help me take the next step toward a career in anthropology and related fields, including areas that connect archaeology and criminal justice. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will help me move closer to achieving this goal. If I don’t make my goal however, all donations WILL be used towards my education only.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for supporting my education.
