Phil Calder was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when he was 5 months old. Since then he has been battling the disease with the aid of his family and friends, who are always there encouraging him.
In 2012, he was the recipient of his first double lung transplant. Things were going extremely well. He become very active, joining a local squash team through Brock University and playing hockey with friends. He enjoyed helping out one of his brothers coach a youth lacrosse league. Finally, Phil was able to to enjoy life as your typical young adult.
In early 2016, Phil began to decline. His lungs were beginning a state of rejection and throughout the course of the year, he progressively became worse. In the beginning of 2017 his condition was so dire that he was placed, again, on the transplant waiting list.
Phil was very lucky to have received his second double lung transplant on March 30th 2017. After 9 long hours in the operating room, the transplant surgery was a success.
Right now he is currently recovering from the surgery and with recovery comes the financial strain of relocation, travel expenses, and other costs.
