Fund for Devon Hack
We are starting this GoFundMe for our dear colleague, friend, cousin, uncle, brother, son, husband, and father, Devon Hack.
Devon has had a life time of battles that have come with having Cystic Fibrosis. Which is a genetic disorder that affects mostly the lungs, but also kidneys, liver, pancreas, and the intestines. Those with CF experience difficulty breathing and coughing up mucus caused by frequent lung infections. Diagnosed at the age of 5, Devon never expected to live to the age of 47 and having a wife, Stacey, and a son, Luke.
This isn't to say that the last few years haven't come with complications and even more than a few very serious "close calls." As his lung capacity has diminished, and the risk of infections has grown, he has had to take a step back from his work with the provincial government and even one of his favorite pass times, refereeing. But somehow he still manages to make it to Smitty's a few times a week to catch up with friends and family.
However, Devon is about to win his final battle. After being on the waiting list for many years, he has been given the news that he will be having a double lung transplant in the coming April (2020).
Although the surgery itself is financially covered, there are many costs associated with the journey that Devon and his family are about to undergo. The surgery takes place in Edmonton Alberta, which requires a temporary move for Devon and Stacey. And with that, the expenses of not being home for 2-3 months. Those expenses include but are not limited to:
- Child Care - Accommodations - loss of income (Stacey)
- Pet Care - Food
- Air fare - car rental/ transportation
We are hoping to try and raise half of the estimated expenses that Devon and his family will require.
Thank you in advance for your much needed and appreciated donation,
Candace Cardoso and the rest of the fundraising team.
