In October of 2018, David Lee unexpectedly got the news he would have to undergo an amputation surgery, following an emergency surgery to remove a blood clot, and attempt to reestablish blood flow in his right leg. Less than 24 hours after the first amputation, he was placed on the ward and, unfortunately, in an unconscious state, with no bed railings to protect him, he fell out of the bed twice on his amputated leg. After the first amputation and returning home, his leg became infected due to the falls, forcing him to return immediately and undergo a third surgery, during which he had to have the leg amputated further up. It is his and all of the family's plan for him to get a prosthetic leg as soon as possible. This will aid him in living the most normal day to day life he can. Those of us who know David, know that he is a loving father, brother, and friend to many. To his children and siblings, he is the absolute world!
Since undergoing multiple surgeries and the immense mental and physical pain of healing, David has persistently pushed forward in achieving his goal of ensuring he maintains an active life, not only for himself but for his loved ones. Currently, David completes daily at-home physical therapy exercises and aquatic therapy at a local gym. Needless to say, he is a living miracle to those around him whom he continues to make proud each day. We truly admire the unending strength and endurance he has had in recovering from this major life change!
On top of the major expenses to date, the availability of prosthesis treatment and devices are unfortunately somewhat lacking in the Bahamas, which makes this process even more costly than most. This is in addition to the medical, therapy, and facility costs that will be ongoing for David post prosthesis. Nevertheless, our family are firm believers that this will all work out, knowing we can count on God, family, and friends far and wide to help David walk again on his own and enjoy the rest of his life as fruitfully as possible. This fight is for Dave; this is for his daughter, Megan, and son, Chris; this is for his future grandchildren; this is for the life we know Dave deserves from here on out!
