Beans has been my good friend and pen pal for about 5 years now. We met doing an art trade through the mail. He mailed me some amazing embroidered patches along with lots of stickers and a kind letter on fun stationery paper. Ever since then, we have been exchanging more letters, art, and stickers and I have learned a lot about Bean's life.

Beans is a 20-year-old transgender man who lives in Massachusetts and life hasn't always been the easiest for him. He lives with mental illness and so does members of his family. When he graduated high school, he did apply to art college and did get in! He did not end up attending but he is still working towards that goal. I hope he can feel encouragement to eventually attend college.  

When Beans and his Mom were evicted from their apartment, it took a lot of courage for him to move out and start living on his own. Beans has been working super hard ever since. He currently works part-time at a thrift store but it is very hard to work enough hours for Beans to pay for the therapy he needs, medication, rent, and food. The pandemic hasn't made anything any easier.

Beans contacted me Sunday, September 6th that he was in a Behavioral Heath hospital for attempted suicide. He was then moved to a CSU (Crisis Stabilization Unit) and it there currently. On top of this, the person he was living with decided she did not want Beans back and now he is facing homelessness. 

Beans is the kindest person I have ever met and he has with the biggest heart. If you know him, you would agree! He is very giving and always fills my letters with lots of gifts, music playlists, drawings, and art. 

Beans will use this money to help him get back on his feet when he is released from the hospital. He wants to use it to pay for his storage unit, phone bills, food, clothes, stamps, therapy, medication, and anything else he needs.
