Fund for Stevie and Quin Madert

Donation protected
Vic treasured her children and understood how special the relationship between parent and child can be. She set high standards and had no time for excuses. This fundraiser will be used for Victoria's children and their future. Vic loved to travel with her family and see new places. We want to make sure Stevie and Quin have the same opportunity to grow, learn and explore!

Thank you so much for donating!

Victoria Slater-Madert

Victoria Slater-Madert died at home November 16, 2022 surrounded by family and friends. She was kissed and wrapped in a blanket of love. She is survived by her husband Billy, daughter, Stevie, and son, Quin; her mother, Cris, brother, Vincent and his wife Melissa, and brother, Daniel, his husband, Paul and his sons, Ben and Zach; her niece Genevieve, and nephews Bennett and Sam. She was preceded in death by her Dad, Steve, and her Granddad, Chris.

Victoria was born December 21, 1982. She grew up in California and New York, and finished high school in Charles Town, WV. She partied at LSU for one year, then received her Bachelors of Science in Social Work from Shepherd University, and her Masters of Social Work from WVU.

Vic dedicated her life’s work to the Children’s Home Society (CHS) in Martinsburg, WV, from 2006-present. To keep her legacy alive, the CHS is renaming their Safe Haven Children’s Advocacy Center to Victoria’s House.

In June of 2020, Vic was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer. For 28 months, Vic faced chemo, radiation, and surgeries with courage, a smile, and enormous positivity. Sadly, at 7:48 AM, on November 16th, she passed.

For their enormous love, care, and friendship, the family would like to thank Dermot and Jane Ryan, Mary White, Deb Barthlow, Rosita Piccolo, Susan Menzies, Sharon Snyder, Amy Cassidy, Kristy Brown, Ashley Elliott, Sam Kennedy, Liz Gallery, Christa Mastrangelo Joyce, Molly Middlebrook, Colleen Young, Veronica Hall, Rachel Wilkinson, Jeff and Grace Niland, Chelsea Eyler, Lauren Espinkotter, and Hospice of the Panhandle.

The family will receive friends for a viewing and wake in their home at 1438 Billmyer Mill Rd, from 4:00-9:00 PM, Friday, November 18th.

A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, November 19th, at 2:00 PM at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, Harper’s Ferry, WV. Victoria will be interred in the family grave next to her Dad, overlooking the Shenandoah River in the midst of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Reception to follow at the family’s home on Billmyer Mill Road.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully received in Vic’s honor to the Children’s Home Society.

Victoria had no idea of her illness, with no symptoms of colon cancer. She had two children, and like most ladies after pregnancy, she had hemorrhoids. Doctors assured her they were normal–Not! Please check your bottoms, your poo, and pay attention. Vic’s disease was cruel.
