Hi, my name is Erica Hector — I’m a storyteller, director, and believer in the healing power of art.

I’m raising $1,500 to produce my short film Daddy’s Here — a deeply personal and faith rooted project about healing from the absence of a parent who didn’t die, but feels dead to you.

As a writer and entertainer, I often use my craft to process the parts of life that don’t have easy answers. This story was born after a final falling out with my father — one that left me sitting in silence on my 39th birthday, wondering why I was still waiting on that call that would never come.

But in the stillness, I heard something greater. I realized that while my earthly father failed to show up, my Heavenly Father had never left me.

Daddy’s Here is a spoken word short film that follows, Ava a young poet, as she delivers a soul-baring performance in front of her estranged father. Through a series of flashbacks, Ava reflects on missed birthdays, empty bleachers, and silent milestones — but finds healing not through apology, but through divine presence.

This story is for anyone who’s ever had to mourn someone still living. It’s for the daughters and sons who finally chooses peace over pain.
