Hi I’m Ed, creator of Redeemed Podcast - a Christian podcast combining creative script writing with talented voice actors to connect listeners to the messages of Christ.
The concept for this podcast was birthed after noticing a vast chasm between nourishing Christian content and masterful entertainment. I want to bridge that gap.
HOW DO I PLAN TO DO THIS?
By combining creative script writing with talented voice actors.
Podcasts are very unique in that they demand an intelligent transaction from listeners to compensate for the lack of video. Theatrical podcasts have even greater potency, immersing listeners into the vivid world the narrative builds in their minds.
Imagine the power and potential of a Christian podcast with such creative attributes?
- Dramatizations inspired by biblical accounts will give both Christians and skeptics an entertainment alternative with gospel roots.
- Non-Christian listeners will connect with gospel truths in a non-confrontational manner (people that would otherwise be opposed to a gospel conversation).
If you haven’t heard Redeemed yet, click the link below to experience the first three episodes.
WHY DO I NEED YOUR HELP?
There are two reasons:
Besides the incredible actors I work with, I am the only one behind the scenes doing everything - writing, narrating, producing, mastering, etc. It’s unsustainable for me to spread myself thin like this, and it certainly prevents me from achieving my goal of publishing one episode a week.
Each episode is expensive. I have depleted a majority of my savings funding the first three episodes.
Redeemed episodes are expensive because:
- Actors need to be hired.
- Software subscriptions need to be regularly renewed.
- Background music needs to be purchased.
- Each sound effect needs to be purchased.
WHAT IS THIS CAMPAIGN FUNDING?
I do plan to eventually fund the establishment of a complete creative team to help me produce episodes weekly, but for now, I want to create one more episode with you.
This campaign is funding the next episode of Redeemed Podcast (episode four).
If it’s successful, I will lift the curtain and invite you backstage with me.
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
I will vlog the entire episode creation process and give you a front row seat.
- Help me decide what the episode will be about.
- Experience my writing process.
- See how I work with my actors.
- Witness some of my quirky methods (fun fact, I record the narration in the bathroom amongst a cocoon of blankets and pillows!)
But most important of all, you’ll help me oppose the dark entertainment options that are prevalent in the world today.
Any amount raised above this goal will fund future episodes and the expansion of the Redeemed Podcast team.
The world needs more light. Partner with me, and together let’s create a beautiful light in the darkness.
SOME MORE BACKGROUND INFO
How many Christian entertainment options can you list off the top of your head? A few at best. I want to change that. I want to give both Christians and skeptics an entertainment alternative deeply with gospel roots.
The gospel opportunity is limitless. Redeemed podcast presents the gospel through captivating entertainment, so many skeptics that would otherwise be opposed to hearing the gospel will actually enjoy listening to it.
I predict this will result in many listeners contacting us through our website to learn more about Jesus. I want to create comprehensive resources and a dedicated communications channel to cater to such requests to lead as many people to Christ as possible.
As Redeemed Podcast grows, the opportunity to spread the glorious gospel of Jesus will grow!
How to Pray
I have two primary prayer requests:
Prayer request 1: Pray for this podcast to grow in popularity. This is something the bleeding world desperately needs.
Prayer request 2: Please pray for Christ to continue to use me as a vessel for his creative healing light in this dark world.
Are you a Christian?
Yes of course! I was saved in 2013 and my life has never been the same. I would classify my denomination as Reformed. Some of my favourite theologians and bible teachers include:
- Charles Spurgeon
- R.C. Sproul
- James White
- Jeff Durbin
- Douglas Wilson
- Tim Mackie
When did you start Redeemed Podcast?
I wrote the first episode in February 2020 while sick at home with what I thought was Covid (turned out to be just the flu).
Is it really just you working on this?
Yep! Besides the character lines, I do everything myself. Because I don’t have a professional recording studio, I compensate by settling into tiny spaces around the house within a cocoon of blankets and cushions – fun fact, I recorded the narration for episode 3 in the bathroom like this!
Why did you start this podcast?
I started Redeemed because I noticed how starved Christians are for high-quality entertainment.
There are very few options available and they are either extremely cheesy, have terrible theology, or both. I want to create something theologically rich at a world-class entertainment standard.
After all, it is christians that should be setting the standard for beautiful productions because our work reflects the glory of Christ (Colossians 1:17)
Are you creating dramatized bible stories?
Nope. I create dramatized stories inspired by biblical events.
What this means is I create fictitious backstories to biblical records as a form of entertainment – kinda like what the Chosen series is doing but in an audio format.
My hope is to encourage listeners to study the biblical events I am referencing to keep them firmly connected to their bible.
Another important objective of this style of podcast is to connect non-christian listeners to the story of Jesus in a non-confrontational manner – people that would otherwise be very unreceptive to a gospel conversation. It’s difficult not to be captivated by Redeemed Podcast, no matter what your religious beliefs are.
What is the age of your target audience?
Adults are the primary target because Redeemed includes adult themes. I am purposely presenting an unfiltered depiction of life, with all of its blisters, tears and scars. This is reality, and when we confront it, we embrace our desperate need for a saviour.
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
– John 1:5
