"West Lake Dragon Well" follows Tony, a Chinese-American businessman, as he is honored with a traditional tea ceremony to celebrate his recent promotion. However, the attendees—a group of five colleagues—are individuals Tony has betrayed in secret. As the evening unfolds, suspicions of his wrongdoings begin to surface, leaving Tony gripped with regret and paranoia. He must navigate the evening without revealing his guilt, all while the tension among his colleagues grows.
This film offers a psychological exploration of paranoia, guilt, and power dynamics, set against the seemingly mundane backdrop of a celebratory gathering. With a minimal budget and a tightly controlled setting, "West Lake Dragon Well" delivers a gripping, character-driven experience that critiques the classism found in both professional and cultural spaces. Through careful tension-building and nuanced performances, this project aims to provoke thought about trust, privilege, and the consequences of one’s actions.
