Fund Deauwand's Final Journey with Love

Hello, everyone. My name is James. I am one of Deauwand's best friends. He and I were friends for over 20 years. We met at Furman University in 1999. When we met, we were inseparable. He was a close confidant and true friend.
I am devastated that we lost him to heart failure on Sunday, March 2, 2025. COVID is cruel. It robbed him of more life and time because of long and severe complications with the virus. It robbed him emotionally and mentally as well. Often, he was frustrated and sad from the countless conversations we had.
He had bright moments, though. Deauwand was witty, funny, snobby (in the kindest, gentlest, and funniest way), and had an electric smile.
He was an avid lover of music - especially the jazz standards. He had a beautiful countertenor voice, which he used often to sing the arrangements sung by Natalie Cole, Sarah Vaughan, and Ella Fitzgerald. He would often compose little melodies of his own - extemporaenously - in a classic jazz/ballad style.
Because of his mental illness, it led to Deauwand being home insecure for several years until his demise in Pasadena, California. Without a steady income and benefits, he did not have any life insurance for this day. We want to raise money to pay for his service and creamation. Please see the breakdown below:
It’s $1650.00 for the cremation
- $375.00 for the removal fee from the county morgue
- $250.00 for packing and shipping
- $300.00 funeral home (an hour service)
TOTAL: $2575.00
Thank you all for assisting. All monies will go to his mom, Dr. Marion Myers, to help with expenses.
