Hello, my name is Davis. I created this fundraiser to raise money to make a short film. The film is called “Disrupted”. My film is about doing hard things to live a more fulfilled life. It's about freedom vs. control, and how sometimes we live like we are free, but we are really trapped. Whether that be an addiction, anger, a toxic relationship, or otherwise. The main character in the film, Allen, enters drug treatment after a pill addiction leads him to suicidal thoughts.

This is a personal story. In the summer of 2020, a psychiatrist prescribed me Ativan, a benzodiazepine. OCD runs in my family and mine developed in my early twenties, producing a heavy load of anxiety for me. On the Ativan, all my anxiety just went away. But, when the drug wore off, the unpleasant feelings came back stronger. Eventually, I was taking more than I was prescribed, and I tried repeatedly to quit taking Ativan, but continuously failed. During this time, I struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts. In 2021, 48,183 people committed suicide. That’s one death every 11 minutes (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2023). I risk being judged for talking about my suicidal thoughts. But, if my film can be encouraging to one person struggling out of that 48,000 that might take their life, then I feel it’s my duty to tell my story. The hardship will pass. It will get better. It got better for me.

The funds raised will be used by myself, to pay for camera rental, sound and lighting professionals, location usage, food and much more of the expenses needed to create a short film. I will share the script with anyone who requests. I have a degree in Digital Cinema Production from DePaul University. I have a depth of experience working on short films. We begin shooting on August 2nd and will need the funds by then. Any amount is appreciated, and if you are not able to donate currently, please share also to a family member or friend.
