Help Damned Without Vision perform at PhillyFringe
Donation protected
The Up & Rising Collective is producing Damned Without Vision for the Philly Fringe Festival in September of 2024. The urgent goal of our project is reclaiming our individual abilities to combat systemic inequity and violence, by providing a space for people to share wisdom and imagination that gets down and grabs the issue at the root. We hope to spark an investment into our communities and relationships, instead of outsourcing issues to institutions that are uninterested in seeing people thrive beyond the superficial. This piece originated as a work in progress this past Spring at Penn State School of Theatre and, with your help, will be able take its first step on a journey where the real work can begin.
Damned without Vision— An Abolitionist Experiment
Using a combination of stage combat, scene work, poetry, voiceovers, satire, and contributions from folks whose lives have been impacted both in the past and presently by our carceral systems, the piece is an exploration and call to creativity for our communities to imagine a world beyond Policing and Incarceration.
Your donation helps us to rent our performance space and pay our team of actors and designers. Theatre in any form requires many hands (stage managers, lighting designers, etc) and we are committed to compensating them for their craft. Rough theatre is holy theatre, we’re about as bare bones as you can get, but we want to do this right.
The Philly Fringe Festival encourages experimentation, discovery, and exploration. They have cultivated a space where pieces that push the boundaries of theatre and audiences are celebrated; we think this is the perfect environment for Damned Without Vision to take its next steps.
