Donation protected
Hello Friends,
My name is Camille Jackson (She/Her), and I’m a first-year student filmmaker planning to make my first short in May.
Story
Set in 1940s, this tells the story of an harasser who can’t take no for an answer, who meets an enchanting songstress at an all-black jazz bar that gives him the night he deserves.
This visually lush short film beautifully blends drama with supernatural horror elements.
Director’s Statement
With a love for the fantastic, I aim to create stories that show the multitudes that is Blackness no matter the genre. I hope that audiences see themselves in my work, especially Black queer women. This story was based on the time I was harassed on the street heading to school by an older man. There are days I wished I had a Lady Hazel and a community to protect and comfort me. Through the Whisper Room, I can create that community. My writing is the culmination of all my experiences, both good and bad, people I've met along the way, and as love letters to my younger self, and all the multitudes she contains, encouraging her to keep living truthfully.
Mission Statement
With this production, our team aims to amplify Black, queer, women, femme voices, and how they’re represented on screen. We celebrate and cultivate a safe, welcoming, and diverse set crew and cast. We subvert the one-dimensional lens marginalized groups are painted in.
Donation Use
All donations will go towards props, permits, costumes, set design and feeding all of the performers and crew. If you are unable to donate please help by sharing our fundraiser. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and have a great day.
I also hope to use donations to enter The Whisper Room into festivals later in the year.
Any donations will receive a special thanks credit at the end of the film.
