Fund Camila's Life-Saving Liver Transplant

Please help Camila achieve her liver transplant!

Camila Fley Somarriba is my best friend’s daughter, she is eight years old, and studying third grade at the Arcoíris College in Matagalpa, in the North of al Nicaragua. She's an active, happy, intelligent and chatty girl. She likes to paint, dance, play chess, participate in her Maths class and take care of her little dog called Black. Her favourite song is Escriurem, and she dreams of being a doctor! She has a 14 years old brother and she feels happy with her Mom Marellyn Somarriba and her Dad Jorge Fley. Camila has a lot of plans for her future.

I am speaking for her today.

In June 2023 Camila felt sick and was hospitalised. The medical staff discovered that she's acquired the Barr-Epstein virus, which seriously affected her liver. After a year of treatment the final diagnosis is chronic liver disease with portal hypertension. In practice this means that Camila's liver no longer functions properly, and this is irreversible.

For this reason, the only way for Camila to continue with her life is to have a liver transplant as soon as possible. The great news is that the operation will be done in Costa Rica between August and November thanks to negotiations by the Nicaraguan Institute for Social Security (INSS), but as a family we need economic support to cover the costs of staying there, and the complementary treatment before, during and after the transplant. WITH YOUR HELP WE WILL BE ABLE TO ACHIEVE ALL THIS! Our goal to collect is USD 22,000.

¡Apoyemos a Camila para su trasplante de hígado!

Camila Fley Somarriba es la hija de mi mejor amiga, tiene ocho años y cursa tercer grado en el colegio Arcoíris de Matagalpa, al Norte de Nicaragua. Es una niña activa, alegre, inteligente y platicona. Le gusta pintar, bailar, jugar ajedrez, la clase de matemáticas y mimar a su perrito Black. Su canción favorita es Escriurem y ¡sueña con ser doctora! Tiene un hermano de 14 años y se siente feliz con su mamá Marellyn Somarriba y su papá Jorge Fley. Camila tiene muchos planes por delante y hoy estoy hablando en su nombre.

En junio de 2023 Camila se sintió mal y estuvo hospitalizada. El personal médico descubrió que adquirió un virus llamado Epstein-Barr que afectó su hígado gravemente. A un año de estar en tratamiento, el diagnóstico final es hepatopatía crónica con datos de hipertensión portal. En la práctica esto significa que el hígado de Camila ya no cumple su función y su estado es irreversible.

Por eso, la única forma para que Camila siga adelante con su vida es un trasplante de hígado lo más pronto posible. La excelente noticia es que la operación se realizará en Costa Rica entre agosto y noviembre con gestiones del Instituto Nicaragüense de Seguridad Social, pero como familia necesitamos apoyo económico para los gastos de estadía y otros complementarios al procedimiento médico antes, durante y después del trasplante. ¡CON TU AYUDA PODEMOS CONSEGUIRLO!
