Fund Byron Hurt’s God Bless the Child Productions

Dear Friends,

I’m excited to announce an important new fundraising endeavor from my production company, God Bless The Child Productions. I’m offering an opportunity for family, friends, colleagues, and supporters to watch all my documentary films online, and engage in post-screening conversations with me and special guests.

The Byron Hurt Film Series (BHFS) is a seven week series featuring my body of work on GATHR. I hope you’ll not only register, watch, and share this exciting news, but also support my production company.

Here's Why Your Support Is Critical

As many of you know, last month, Congress rescinded $1.1 billion in funding to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). As a result, the entire public media ecosystem is recalibrating. I’ve had discussions with several colleagues – independent filmmakers like me – who have had their funding taken away because CPB has been defunded, or because the filmmakers’ funders have had to make painful decisions on how to re-allocate their monies so they can keep their doors open. We’re talking hundreds of thousands of dollars for some filmmakers… GONE!

This deeply consequential act of Congress has been devastating to the filmmaking community. The negative impacts on public media are far-reaching.

BUT I AM DETERMINED TO FIND A WAY!

As a result, I’ve had to pivot in the face of this blatant attack on public media. As I’ve done with previous films, I’m turning to my core audience of supporters: YOU. I have several films in development – with a major announcement about a new film coming soon – but I can only get these projects off the ground with your support and financial contributions.

About the Byron Hurt Film Series (BHFS)

Starting Thursday, September 11, 2025, the series will launch with my first film, I Am A Man: Black Masculinity in America (1997). Then each following week, the BHFS will feature another of my films. On Tuesday, October 21, BHFS will culminate with the VIRTUAL PREMIERE of my latest short documentary film, Men of Courage. As a whole, BHFS will take a retrospective look at my filmography, generate dialogue during Q&A's, examine the themes in my films and connect them to today’s climate, and raise funds.

All details will be announced next week, including the BHFS schedule, how to purchase tickets, and how to become eligible for one-on-one mentoring sessions and small group workshops about documentary filmmaking. Until then, please SAVE THE DATE for Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 7 pm ET.

Thank you for your continued support, and for helping to grow God Bless The Child Productions during times such as these!

Sincerely,

Byron Hurt
