Fund Brimsley's Life-Changing Surgery

Brimsley is a goofy, 1-year old, friendly pug who arrived at Yolo County Animal Services in Woodland, CA at the end of May with a very concerning limp and apparent pain. He was pulled by Scooter's Pals Rescue from the shelter so he can get the medical care he needs and is currently in a foster home.

Medical

Brimsley's x-rays show that he has degeneration of the left head of his femur, which is the part of the femur that goes into the socket. As a result, he has lost muscle in that leg, which causes leg pain. Most likely it was caused from either an injury that he sustained when he was a puppy or from a congenital deformity. He gets around really well on the three legs, and it doesn’t appear to slow him down, but it is very painful for him. In order to relieve his pain, the veterinarian recommends a procedure called a femoral head osteotomy (FHO), which involves going in to surgically to remove the head of the femur. Since he is so young, the prognosis for having a limp but non-painful gait is very good.

He will be seeing the orthopedic surgeon for a consultation on Wednesday, July 3 and if all goes well, he will be scheduled for the surgery. The surgery is estimated to be $1500 to $2000.

Brimsley is a happy-go-lucky young pup about a year old who loves the company of other dogs and loves to play. He is full of energy. He is extremely affectionate and always wants to sit in your lap for pets. He is house trained, crate trained, and loves car rides.
