Hi, my name is Kristen and I am Brian's sister-in-law. We are sad to share the news that Brian had a severe heart attack a couple of weeks ago. He was in a coma for 8 days before he "came to". He has had a severe anoxic injury to the brain "lack of oxygen for an unknown period of time". Doctors told us that is was not likely he would wake up, but he did. By the grace of God, he not only woke up but was able to speak a few words including "I'm alive", "I love you" and several of our names. He has a VERY long road ahead of him as far as recovery. We are looking at options to transfer him from his home in Maui to San Diego, but the medical transport costs are pretty extreme. As a family, we hate having to ask for help, especially monetary help, but it's necessary.

He will need extensive speech, occupational, and physical therapy as well as a transfer from Maui to San Diego.

We understand that not everyone can donate money so we are also asking for resources to include info on insurance, social work, therapy, etc. There is a lot of work ahead of us, but we truly believe that if anyone can come back from this, it's Brian!
