HELLO!
I'm Breana, an N.Y.C based producer and director. After graduating Emerson College in 2020, I worked in the media and film industry as a PA until 2025 when I decided to go to graduate school to hone my skills as an independent filmmaker. I'm currently pursuing my MFA in Creative Producing at Columbia University, and this film is the last project I will direct in my program. Not only is it my thesis film as a "director" but it is the most important creative project I've made to date.
This film is deeply inspired by real life. My dad moved to Arizona full-time in 2016 and since then, Arizona has become my second home. Over the past decade, I’ve spent countless days traveling the state—exploring obscure places and meeting unforgettable people from all walks of life. As a director, I’ve long wanted to tell a story in Arizona using non-actors, and with The Land Beyond, I’m finally doing both.
I met the film’s lead, Kevin Mohler, in the summer of 2025 at Peddler’s Pass, a flea market in Prescott-one of the major locations of the film. We struck up a long conversation about climbing and a peculiar item he’d been trying to sell: a 1920s gold-framed convex glass portrait he believes depicts a young Ronald Reagan. Despite skepticism from others, Kevin held firmly to his belief that the portrait could be genuine. I found his conviction both moving and inspiring. Imagining what might happen if something so precious went missing sparked the idea for this story.
This film will be a true collaboration between myself, non-actors like Kevin, and the local community that inhabits these spaces. Though the story is fictional, I aim to ground it in as much real-life truth as possible.
Our crew is made up of young, passionate filmmakers working with no budget. We’re funding this project entirely out of our own pockets and doing everything we can to make it the best it can be. Any donation—no matter how small—is GREATLY appreciated.
Your donations will go directly towards flights for cast and crew, lodging, food, rental equipment, gas and vehicle rentals.
